October National Roller Skating Month 2024 Campaign Announced: Together We Roll October's campaign is set to inspire unity and togetherness, encouraging kids to be "roll models" while introducing the exciting Read and Roll Program! ? INDIANAPOLIS, IN (SEPTEMBER 20, 2024) - The Roller Skating Association (RSA) is thrilled to unveil its latest theme for October's National Roller Skating Month – “Together We Roll!” This dynamic initiative is set to inspire unity and togetherness, encouraging kids to be "roll models" while reintroducing the exciting Read and Roll Program. As a prominent advocate for anti-bullying and the myriad health benefits, both mental and physical, of roller skating, the RSA continues to pave the way for positive change within the industry. We’re gearing up for an action-packed October filled with events and initiatives that promise to electrify the roller skating community from coast to coast. “Read and Roll” Initiative: Where Literacy Meets Skating Fun To complement the physical benefits of skating, the RSA is proud to reintroduce the popular “Read and Roll” initiative. This innovative program motivates children to embrace the joy of reading, rewarding them with skate time based on their reading achievements. Schools, libraries, and skating rinks are collaborating to ensure that children across the country can benefit from this initiative, combining education with entertainment in a way that fosters learning and active play. Parents, educators, media, and rink owners are invited to promote this engaging literacy program to their communities and encourage children to participate, fostering both a love of reading and skating. ?Educators can contact their local rink and ask about the Read and Roll Program to get started. Schools will receive bookmarks to give students rewards at their local skating rink for reading 5 books and having a teacher or librarian sign their bookmark to bring back to the skating rink. Upcoming Events Learn to Skate Day on October 5: The first Saturday of October will be a day of discovery as roller rinks nationwide welcome newcomers to experience the thrill of roller skating for the very first time! Cha Cha Slide Day on October 12: Join us at 3 p.m. local time on the second Saturday of October as we pay tribute to the late DJ Casper, the creative genius behind the Cha Cha Slide. Sock it to Cancer Fundraising Campaigns All Month Long: This nationwide campaign dedicates proceeds from sock sales to local cancer associations, supporting research and awareness.
